Film of the Day: 8
Lawrence of Arabia (1962)
The Great T.E. Lawrence better known as Lawrence of Arabia passed away today in 1935, due to injuries from a motorcycle crash six days before.
Of course, there is a film that shows his amazing adventures and is portrayed marvelously by Peter O'Tool in one of the greatest performances ever put on screen in the arguably the greatest epic film ever made, thanks to the great David Lean.
This film is pure cinematic gold from beginning to end, with its brilliant score to its beautiful direction, it's a film that could never be made today and it is widely considered to be one of the most influential films of all time.
Stephen Spielberg states that he watches this film every time he is about to make a film of his own (along with 3 other films), not to mention influencing a whole lot of other great directors such as George Lucas, Sam Peckinpah and Martin Scorsese.
I've seen this film quite a few times now but when I did see it for the first time, I couldn't believe I had seen such a film, I felt genially lucky to have seen it and still do. If you are one of those people who might not watch this film because it is almost four hours long, I’m telling you this film is not long enough... this is a miracle film.
