Film of the Day: 5

The Pianist (2002)

This is a masterful biopic on Polish-Jewish musician Wladyslaw Szpilman.  Showing his phenomenal struggle to survive the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto in World War II and being today in 1943 The Warsaw Ghetto Uprising ended; I thought this film is perfect for today.

This is Polanski’s most personal film as he himself was at one point in the Kraków Ghetto and it also won him his first Oscar as a director yet unfortunately the film was robbed of its best picture Oscar to the over-rated 'Chicago'.
