The Old Dark House (1932, James Whale)

Whale, straight off from directing Frankenstein directs this terrific and unfortunately forgotten gem with great characters all round and a very chilling atmosphere.  The cast here is terrific with Boris Karloff from Frankenstein as Morgan the dumb yet mad butler, the charming Melvyn Douglas and the great Charles Laughton as two of the stranded men.  This is one great creepy film that is to be watched on a dark and stormy night in.
