Film of the Week: 6

Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987)
There is something about this film that reminds me of another festive classic movie that I also watch every year, A Christmas Story. As Christmas approaches I got to watch it along with the classic It's a Wonderful Life.

With Thanksgiving on Monday 10th, there's nothing like a great stuffed turkey with some pumpkin pie with your family. I on the other hand live in London away from my family at the moment so I had a nice little dinner with my girlfriend. Some delicious turkey, candy yams, apple pie and of course a great movie.

We could either watch Woody Allen's terrific Hannah and Her Sisters, yet it's just always more fun to watch John Hughes's best film with your family and/or friends.

This amazing hilarious and heart-warming comedy never gets old. You can watch it over and over and you can't help at laugh at the dialog. Not only that but I personally am a fan of Canadian actor John Candy, unfortunately he did not have that many great movies to his credit however this is by far his greatest film.

These two comedians (Steve Martin & John Candy) were a perfect match for each other and maybe because they were in fact best friends in real life. In fact when John Candy sadly died in 1994 in Mexico while filming Wagon's East, it was said that Steve Martin went through a 6 month depression.

Also in the beginning, look out for the young Kevin Bacon who beats Steve Martin in a great chase to a cab. It's the ultimate comedy about two completely different people who have to succumb to traveling by planes, trans and automobiles in order to get home to their families for Thanksgiving. Of course, things never go as planned and something always goes wrong.

It is said that John Hughes was actually inspired by an actual trip that he made from Chicago to New York in which he found himself in Wichita and took him five days to get home. It's one of those films that people of all ages will enjoy; you're never too young or too old for this great Hughes classic. It's the best Thanksgiving movie ever.
