Film of the Day: 7

Napoleon (1927)

In 1804, Napoléon Bonaparte is proclaimed Emperor of the French by the French Senate on May 18th.  At one point Stanley Kubrick was determend to make a proper Napoléon film, he was always obsessed with Napoléon and even had a screenplay.  But unfortunatly this did not happen and still to date, the best film about Napoléon is the 1927 silent masterpiece staring Albert Dieudonné.

After the film was released, the burden of playing the young Napoléon Bonaparte drove Albert insane and he starting believing that he was the Emperor himself.  He never made another film again apart from one film where he played Napoleon again and a re-edited version of the silent masterpiece.  He then lived his later days lecturing about Napoleon.
