The Rocket: The Legend of Rocket Richard (2005)

Maurice "The Rocket" Richard was one of Canada's greatest hockey players.  He was born in Montreal, Canada on August 4th 1921 and was the first to ever score 50 goals in one season and over 500 goals in his career and was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1961.  He died today in 2000 in Montreal, Canada where a year later the Canadian government dedicated a monument to him.

In 2005, Charles Binamé directed an excellent biopic of Maurice staring Roy Dupuis who played the Rocket very honestly.  The film itself was a great surprise and honestly showed how Maurice got through these difficult times and how he dealt with extreme violence within the game and of course... the corruption, as Maurice himself had a major role in trying to end the unnecessary violence within the game.

Monument of The Rocket
At times, this film may seem a little pretentious and may aim a little too high yet it's still one hell of an impressive film about one hell of an impressive hockey player, and if you are a hockey fan as I am... then this film is for you.

  1. hey hey....that's just up my ally....
I've seen this rocket of a hockey player win numerous games with the Montreal Canadiens....
very fast and clean, skillful player....but never actually seen this biopic of him.

I'm still an avid hockey fan and I will see/get this film. It must also be a very nostalgic pre-expansion collector film.

Yes I totally agree that it's a one of those 'must see' films for me....

    Thanks for picking it out!
