Horror of Dracula (1958, Terence Fisher)

The first of seven Dracula pictures by Hammer, known for their third-rate low budget horror films creates the greatest adaptation of Dracula (ignoring Nosferatu of course).  It stars two of Fisher's favourite actors, Peter Cushing as Van Helsing in a very interesting performance and Christopher Lee as Dracula who is not shown too often in the film (unlike the 1931 version) which made Dracula look more terrifying (especially back in 1958).

This is a British remake of the 1931 classic staring Bela Lugosi, and is a much improved version at that, being tenser, more suspenseful and a little faster passed. It is also shot in glorious Technicolor to really capture the blood oozing out of the neck of Dracula's victims and off the fangs of the undead.  If you are a fan of Dracula, be sure not to miss this near masterpiece.

Terence Fisher also directed: The Mummy, The Devil Rides Out & Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed
