The Cooler (2003, Wayne Kramer)


This movie really has the feel of Las Vegas, showing us the dirty side of the town.  It shows us an old school casino with an old school owner played brilliantly by Alec Baldwin as Shelly who even uses a jinx (cooler) played by William H Macy to wander the floor.  It also shows us the changes of Vegas and how Shelly won’t only not change his ways but thinks the new Vegas is a mockery.  This may be Alec Baldwin's finest performance.

    I quite enjoyed this movie, William H Macy is very much a underrated actor.

    I totally agree, and he was great in Pleasantville, Boogie Nights, Magnolia and especially Fargo.
