The Class (2008, Laurent Cantet)

Winner of the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival, this is probably the most honest and truthful film about a classroom and its relationship between the teachers/system and the students.  And François Bégaudeau does an excellent job as the class teacher, seeing him hold back his anger and knowing his place or kicking down a chair after receiving a fake apology from a student.  It’s a terrific film.

  1. Agreed! Quite hard to watch in parts, I thought this was the antithesis to the documentary Être et Avoir. These two films show the polar extremes of the French school system experience. Both are brilliant.
